Should I replace my HT Leads??

I noticed the other day that one of my HT Leads looks like its seen better days. The car is running perfectly though at the moment and had a STAR healthcheck on Friday comfirming all is well.

However I find myself in the enviable position of having a few quid spare thats burning a whole in my pocket. So I was wondering if it would a good idea whilst I had this small amount of disposable cash to invest in a new set of leads for my W220 (all 12 of them!!).

I wanted to get your opinions would this be a worthwhile investment or is there something else that might be a better use of the money? I thought I would seek the advice of this forum before I pose this question to the Mrs and end up spending it on a new Hoover or something equally boring!

If I do go down the route of changing the HT Leads can I do this job myself, and if so does anyone have any information on how the job should be undertaken?

Thank you!

I would leave them alone, you could carefully wipe Silicon onto them to preserve them. your car is not old enough to require the replacements.

Buy an icecream, with a flake, the sun is shining:D

Hows the idle. If its smooth and even then I wouldn't bother. They key thing is if they're working ok. A weak lead will cause a subtle misfire. You'll not notice it in normal running as its a twin spark but it does become evident as a 'knock' at idle.
If it isn't knocking I'd leave well alone.
If you do change them, the rule is, carefully and one at a time, ensuring the supressor cap is properly fitted back to the plug. They have a metal catch at the top and this can be hard to secure sometimes.

I think I'll leave them alone, no misfiring at the moment....

Mmm anything else I could spend it on? Perhaps a nice bottle of single malt?

That's it.. it's called the iRobot Roomba (Robotic Vacuum Robot) and also it's partner in crime iRobot Scooba (Robotic Floor Washing Robot)

Trust me.. I think with all the reviews, that would be money well spent!

1. You get to keep the misses happy with her new gadget that does 90% of the work for her..
2. More time with the misses.. if you fancy it lol
3. If you've got a cat, it's a real laugh to see them pounce around it lol.

I just love my gadgets :p

Watch the video to see it working.. brilliant :D http://www.irobot.com/hrd_right_rail/roomba_rr/roomba_532/Roomba532_rr_video.cfm

You could give the gearbox a service as this often gets missed and a difference is always felt with a nice clean filter and oil.

300 quid for a hoover!!

****** hell thats steep, I think I might save the cash for the next job and buy a bottle of my favorite whiskey which is Ardbeg at the moment. And of course treat the family to a nice dinner out....

Thanks for all of your ideas.

Looks like you have far too much money to waste.

It need someone to do a comparison between the "her indoors" type to the automatic version for the running cost of both systems

My car e430 w210 105k slight misfire at idle new plugs and leads 16off ,now very smooth, wifes car c320 w203 75k also slight misfire (so slight she says she hasnt noticed) new plugs and leads 12off better but still not perfect.

Both cars 2001.

Mine were well and truly shagged hard and when tested 3 were out of range, wifes leads were in much better nick than mine still soft and easy to pull off, mine were right buggers, hers were very easy to remove and all hers measured perfect, typical!

If just doing leads very easy job.
