well guys, my C220 (1995 model) is not the youngest or coolest in the world but i still love it, sadly however it's got a couple of issues

* AC dead
* viscous coupling on the radiator fan needs replacing
* rust, rust and more rust.

because of the RUST, I feel like it's time to say bye bye to the car, rather than fix the two other main issues, but.... as I am not made of money and at least I know what my car is like I can't help but keep telling myself

'better the devil you know'

sure, I could sell it, and then by another less rusty car but god knows what could be wrong with that (I never buy new as I can't afford it)

so,.... sell or keep ?

here's some photos of the car I prepared this weekend with the idea of selling it.... but I love my car !! it drives so well I don't want to sell it :(

Interior photos of the Car taken today (VERY high resolution, so slow to load)

p.s. if you look at http://anyweb.homedns.org/car/car_interior/july_2006 089.html you can see just how clean I got the instrument panel after removing it and cleaning as per this post

Anyweb,
To me your car looks in excellent condition and I would have no hesitation in keeping it and repairing the minor paint blemishes, admittedly more will keep appearing on a car this age but unless you are going to buy new this is a problem you will also soon have with another car.
The viscous fan coupling takes about an hour or so to change on this car and costs about £60, i'm sure I set it out recently on the forum.
Can't help re. the aircon but I'm sure you have as much use for it in Sweden as we do in Scotland, about one week every year.
Stick with it, they are brilliant cars.
Geo.

Hi Anyweb,
It's always a hard one, I kept hold of my Escort for many years for the same reason. The equasion I used is that for what I had to spend, I couldn't get what I really wanted and whatever I could afford would almost certainly have a few problems that would need further money to fix.
If I spent the same amount on my existing car however, I could make it perfect, push the boat out, replace panels and worn components. In fact I could make it better than what I would end up buying. So, I kept it and did it up. (Only to write it off 9 months later, but that's a different story!).

It's all down to what you can afford to spend. The cheapest option will be to do up your existing car. If you could have afforded that 320 you were looking at, then that's a different matter, but changing a car and getting it just the way you want it is always an expensive passtime so you may be better keeping the devil you know.

thanks for the kind words guys, i guess due to lack of money and having a young family that i'll stick with this one for now, at least i know whats wrong (and right) with it, so maybe another year won't hurt

the air-con would definetly be nice to fix as driving through gothenberg on a hot sunny day (which ive done quite a few times already this summer) is awful with no AC

cheers
