Hi

I have a fault on my 2009 W169 A180, it works intermittently and cannot decide if its a faulty led unit or broken wire, symptoms are:

With indicator or hazards on it flashes 2 or 3 times occassionally. A single led at the outside end flashes most of the.time. Folding the mirrors has no effect on it working / not working. It flashes as normal when locking / unlocking. Sometimes the speed increases (indicating bulb not working). Sometimes i get a dash.message that the right.side indicator not working.

The only 'constant' seems to be the correct function when locking /unlocking.

Thoughts appreciated.

Yes - unless you can find an electronics whizz to diagnose and fix its a new lamp unit

The above sounds very plausible, however, it might be worth getting it diagnosed before playing "parts darts".

You would have to do this with the electronics whizz to fault find on the driver board. I had exactly the same issue with my LED indicators in that they would work for a couple of flashes then stop. It was the LED driver board inside the light unit so cannot be directly accessed by STAR other than there is a fault in the light unit and it cannot be bought as a replacement part, only the complete lamp unit.

My wife's BMW had a rear LED light fail for the same reason and I replaced the light unit. I still haven't found anybody that was prepared to diagnose what the issue was on the driver board because of the tiny SMD components - big winner for the manufacturers

Hi

Thanks for the replies, really helpful. Just trying to rule out a broken wire which seemed unlikely but apparently fairly common with folding mirrors.

I'll get a light unit and give it a go.

Thanks
