Well when i worked at a Ford dealer in Brighton, my bodywork apprentaship was working on a lot of Mk111's and had plenty of bloodied fingers to show for it! Ha!

A mate of mine had a 2.0ltr GT in signal Yellow, they were good cars really just the body quality let them down

I can lean on a hililman minx wing and not have to straighten it out after! And hilman ( not any kind of luxury model)
To frightened to try that on my w166... We just had a new John deere grader arrive( I did not organize that) DPF. Def. Parked regen, egr, multiple sensors ecms ect. I can't f wait.!!! No diagnostics here. On mon I go look see if anyone thought about Def. Adblue!!!
I would rather a ten yr old 14h and spend savings in parts!!

This is what you need, a great British marque with technology from over 50 Years ago, bulletproof and straight from the production line, brand spanking new for under £5,000!
Should be an enjoyable drive back to dear old blighty as well, up through India via the stan's or Iran, Turkey into Eutope and home! :)

It's a brave person that would consider owning any newish car outside of an end to end dealer warranty.
Flaky unreliable technology means most new cars won't make old bones as they will be uneconomical to repair once the warranty runs out.

I had a Roman Bronze MK2 3.0 GT that someone had fettled. It was 'interesting' in the wet to say the least!
Working at Ford dealer meant i got to drive some great motors, original RS2000 and Mk11's, RS white hot turbo, cossie's, 2.8i capri's and just easy to work on too

Ohhh I miss my W124.
Was talking to my indy last week, he was raving about how great the w123 are. He had one in the ramp so it was a conversation starter.
We concluded they were engineered to perfection from the smallest screw and nothing complicated.
+1!! If you want simple motoring, a 123 Diesel of some sort, slow but very very reliable!!

When my father left the army in 1961 we were in Paris & he could buy a tax free car, the only condition was to own it 12 months abroad. So 15 months before he finished he went to order a new Mercedes 190d. Unfortunately the waiting list had just shot up to 4 months & getting longer, so he had to look elsewhere. A Citroen DS21 for less money but he was frightened off by the suspension system, which actually was very reliable in the end.
He bought a Borgward Isabella Combi, turned out to be a very reliable car.

Looks interesting but I bet they have learnt to make it out of plink plink tin like all today. When was that last in production?

A Sunbeam Tiger would be preferable, an MGB GT V8 even more so!

NJSS
Handy, but rust bucket, rebuilt a few motors on them. Bomb proof mgb v8. That is

O
Try a modern BMW you even have to register a new battery to the car (via the OBD port) so the car knowns you have fitted one, or you’re heading for trouble, something to do with the alternator and charging rates apparently.
Looks like I’m in the market for a diagnostic code reader as a necessity
Or a motor that don't need one. Sorry if wording iffy I have to rush on phone, big fingers, small keys n near no time before connection lost.

Had a quick look. Think robust simple materials but poor build quality will keep at minx or similar idea in sping

+2 re W124!! First trip back to UK from Spain (used to do it 3x a year) in the new company Focus instead of the W124 300D... Sure it's faster and easier to drive but misses some of the fun and despite the focus having a nice ride/road holding balance (nothing like VAG/Audi over-firm rubbish) it's still not quite so wafty as the battered 300k+ mile W124. Over the 3k miles I now have to deal with 40mpg average on petrol in the new car instead of the 50mpg+ of the 300D (with petrol at 20% more cost in Europe than good old diesel) so new is not always better on fuel.

I haven't had the heart to scrap the old W124 which is off road and i needed to collect 400 breezeblocks from a builder neighbour 800m up the rough track and didn't want them to rip the focus interior so put the battery back on the W124 after 6 months and it started first time and was idling normal with no smoke after 200m! Then with 600kgs of blocks at a time still rode over all the pot holes smoother than the focus...simple motoring but comfortable/economical/reliable enough for every day use

"Interesting" in the dry as well..
I once did some bodywork on a gorgeous Mk11 3.0 GT, race tuned wide wheels with flared arches, stunning wheels and slightly lowered, and all in black, looked mean, sounded awesome with a custom exhaust too, time i finnished with it the customer just stood there and he nearly cried with joy he got it back, thats why i enjoyed that job so much to see look on owners faces :)
