Is it my imagination or does my B 200 (2020) make a simulated engine noise when I need to accelerate hard. If so ,I don't like it and wonder if it can be turned off?

Time these electric cars all made noise ( apart from the terrible tyre noise in cabin ) as some poor being is going to get hurt or killed . I had a rav 4 and don’t know how many times backing out of parking spaces people almost got run over . Apart from that on rough rd surface the tyres gave me a headache before I reached my destination, got rid with only 19000 mls could not stick it any longer.

I think some of the EV’s do, not aware of any of the of the ICE ones have sound generators - might be worth getting the exhaust checked

Just checked the VIN and what do I find for my B200 1.4 ICE listed under code 6U0 Engine sound via speaker.
Now all I have to do is find how to turn it off - which I'm thinking may be harder than it sounds - and it sounds terrible.

Some definitely already do ... I heard a local leccy Hyundai (?) reversing onto its drive the other day ... a gentle ping ping ping
They could always have different models playing different tunes .
Ie jaguar could ROAR like a big cat etc. wonder could we start a thread on suggestions as to what noises each brand could use lol

Worth having a check through your fuse box then and see if there’s one you can pull that runs it. I expect you can code it out with dealer level diagnostics
Have you tried it in different engine modes as it might only work in sport mode or sport+

It seems to work in ECO too! I'll phone dealers and see what answers I can get re. diagnostics. Thanks for that idea.

I have a 2021 GLC300, I’m pretty sure in mine it only comes in with sport+, I quite like it and it is only noticeable when flooring it.

I will double check it today when out driving.

My petrol C300 has it, but only in sport. I don't find the sound offensive. it's not as pronounced as in some other cars I've been in, just an added 'edge'. The only downside is that it alerts my usual passenger, who sits a little more upright in her seat and watches the speedo more closely.

My SL has a “sound generator” unit under the boot. The large pipe visible there, has it’s opening under the car.

When I change driving modes (C,S,S+,I*,CV) there is a display that pops up on the screen (radio / satnav) which brings a disapproving glance from my passenger if any of the middle 3 are selected.

No - definitely not got anything like that. And have just checked the VIN generator and no code like the one the OP has quoted,
Strangely it is not mentioned anywhere on my vin or other documentation.

Just visited the main dealership who say they have seldom, if ever, seen this fitted to the B class. They took it round to the workshop and returned to say nothing can be done to disable it. I imagine this is like the rorywquin set up above. I'll live with it as it's only apparent on hard acceleration which I don't often use, but when the time comes for annual servicing I'll ask my local indy if he can do anything.
Sad that MB can spend their time concocting these little devices instead of fitting more important things like blindspot recognition and Distronic, both of which are unattainable on any B class.

This might help. Artificial engine sound is so sad
