Dear All,

Can anyone help?

I have a 1999 SL320 V6.

It ocassionally cuts out at various speeds.

However, it does give a warning that it is going to do this, as I can hear the centre console being locked/unlocked before the car splutters to a halt. If I turn the ignition off and remove the key the car will start immediately.

My local dealer said the problem was with the Crankshaft sensor, which they replaced to no avail.

When the car has come to a rest I cannot get the roof to work.

OK, All of what we call heavy elecectrics, are in the boot behind the panel, over the battery. you have no more than a loose connection on the battery or nearby on the relays or it is the ignition switch. The reason that the locks mis behave is the interuption of the electrics, ie the car thinks it has stop. My car also a 1999 had a new ignition switch at 34k, that could and would stop everthing, if faulty. The lights are independent, it would be nice to know if the lights went out, when the car stops.check the ignition fuse under the bonnet. The relays in the boot have fuses in the top (M1) Check that they are clean, lubricate them with a good cleaner/lubricant.Turn the fuses round the opposite way incase they have been arcing. You can get a good cleaner from any Electronic supplier/shop called Electrolube, it comes in small tubes. DO NOT USE WD40
