Many thanks Stargazerplus and Stats007

Carhood warehouse looks a good option from all the links you provided and will also discuss with STCS of Coventry.

Thanks again both.

Looking
You will find people who use Wovapin - just not the same thickness as the original.

This is an interesting reply from Peter Serbanica on the mercedesshop SL forum

"Hello, I have been installing tops for over 35 years. Wopavin plastic windows are ok, but will crack sooner, because of stress on folding. Wopavin is too thick. I have replaced many with US plastic and they outlast the top. Just my experience."

My original plastic has cracked after 6 years and I have the car booked in next week at STCS in Coventry for replacement. I know that the guy uses 1mm plexiglass but based on the above reply I have no doubts now about using the thinner plastic.

Hi Stargazer

After all the advice (many thanks to all) I have decided to ask stcs of Coventry to do my window replacement. It`s booked in next week also (quite a coincidence). From a brief conversation he seems to have a very good knowledge of the job and keen on customer service.

Good to compare experiences after the jobs are complete.

Yes I liked the way Tony at STCS seemed very knowledgable about the job. Small local outfits seem better at customer service and he gives a three year warranty!

paulsyno,

I would be very interested to see the results of your window replacement. I think I will need mine done in the next couple of months. In the interim, is there any problem about using an industrial clear tape to prevent a small crack from enlarging?

It sounds like a good idea to me,do it both sides.

I had my windows replaced by STCS in Coventry yesterday. I watched Tony do the some of the job and was impressed by his knowledge. The job is first class and you wouldn't know the hood had been removed! OK, the material is not original but still feels sturdy. Cost £265 fitted. Tony is also subcontracted work from carhood.com. He measured the windows and the original is 1.5mm whereas his replacement is 1mm so should be less prone to splitting.

Don’t know what’s happened to my previous post/response it appears to have disappeared - apologies to all if this reply suddenly gets duplicated somewhere else in the forum.

Pleased to report good job done at Soft-Tops in Coventry - Used 1mm material but it looks good and stiching is uniform - comments I have received suggest it should last as long (if not longer) than Wopavin. Good customer service - suggested and took me to the Transport Museum for the wait. Excellent decision and well worth the visit for all those who have not been - The SCC land speed record simulator was amazing (had two runs).

Hi, I intend to replace my own plastic windows shortly. I have purchased the plastic and need to source the thread/cord used to sew them in. Can anyone advise me where I can buy some please ?
