I have a small fault with my 1997 SL 320.The red & green lights on the rear view mirror work as they should when I lock & unlock,no other problems with the locks or alarm, new batteries in key fob, but, when I drive off the red light flashes every 10sec`for about 5mins and then stops.Any ideas??? it`s irritating.

I've managed to pin mine down to times when I am braking on a slope or cornering - it glows for a couple of seconds then goes out again. Also happens going over speed bumps. Something to do with a tilt sensor in the alarm system perhaps?

After 3wks it has started flashing again!!it will only do this if I unlock the doors and drive away,if I park it unlocked in the garage it wont flash,so I think it must be something to do with the alarm. How do I set if off without causing any damage to my car,as I want to see if it works, will it make a noise or does it just kill the ignition??

Hi,
Locking the car arms the alarm do this with a window down after 30seconds or so wave your hand in front of one of the movement sensors, this should make the alarm sound if only your indicators flash then i would say the siren is U/S bought a new for mine from Mercman in Southampton.
When you unlock the car if you do not put the ignition on the immobiliser will/should passively arm after aprrox 30 seconds this is indicated by the indicators flashing once.
The immobiliser is in the power supply to the ECU or fuel pump supply not sure which.
Hope this helps.

It must be a fault with the movement sensors, I wave and wave and do silly things through the open window, silence, nothing happens. When I open a door from the inside the alarm goes off, siren and indicators. Is this a job for a Merc` man with a diag` tool etc and will an ECU have to be reset when the fault is rectified?? I know a very clever auto electronics expert but the first thing he will want is a wireing diagram of the alarm system.Where can I see one?
