Allegedly there have been problems with K&N filters and premature MAS failure. As they can't have any greater surface area (without changing the filter housing which would be counter productive) the only way such a device can work is by filtering less and allowing more contaiminants through. I wouldn't bother. If you want more power out of a 320sl, the cheapest method is likely to be to swap it for a 420 or a 500.
