Hi All

I have just joined this forum, as I want to buy a SL 320. I have about 10k to spend.

Can any one give me any advice and direction with regards to age, condition, spec and so on.

Many thanks Rob.

Hello Rob

I picked up a '96 SL320 with FSH and 30k miles last year for 10k, so you should be able to find a nice spec/condition for that kind of budget. Try to get one with a panoramic glass hardtop if you can

Look for usual things (as per any older car): FSH, minimal rust, etc

Things to watch on this model are seat wear on drivers backrest (where seatbelt sits), wiper motor failure (it doesn't get lubricated as part of the standard service schedule and can fail - £500 to replace), degredation of wiring loom (tends to be older SL300-24 models, I believe), steering damper leaks (not too expensive to fix - £75 fitted, just had it done). Do a search on this forum against 'R129' and you will pick up various threads about these models and what can go wrong.

My experience of this model to date, though, is very positive. Capable of huge mileages, smooth and refined. Makes me smile more than the newer models (SLK, CLK) I have

Good luck in finding nice one. There are plenty out there and you can afford to be picky
