Hi, Ive got 2003 SL 500 and yes, the central locking packed in. Ive had three pumps and each one has burnt out. Im told that its probably due to a leak in the pipes (cant confirm) and pumps just keep working after the ignition is off. There was a wirring sound which sounds about right (lasted about 5 seconds). In indi specialist said there were no leaks, and just kept charging labour and parts for replacement pumps. A mate said flog it for scrap. So anybody interested? One owner prior to me, and only 80K on the clock.

If it keeps burning out it's almost certainly a leak. All you need do is find where. A hand vacuum pump will soon find it.

Incidentally you don't say where you are. Maybe we can suggest another specialist to look at it.

Seems a shame to write it off. The indy you used should have been able to sort any leak from the pipes. As above, try another one and make sure it's a Merc specialist but avoid a main dealer.

you are considering scrapping a car for a want of a CL pump.
I would scrap your mechanic first.
I will take the car off your hands for the price of a CL pump.

If you really don't want the car, put it on Autotrader or eBay and clearly state what is wrong with it. There will be a queue of people waiting to buy it off you.

They will know it is easily fixable by an experienced owner/Mercedes Independent Specialist.
