I Intend To Change The Gear Knob In My Car, Do I Have To Dismantle The Console? Has Anyone Had Any Experience With This?

What year is it ? I swapped mine out and all I needed to do was twist the ring on the bottom of the knob, and pull it off

IT IS A 1995 MODEL. BUT THE KNOB AND LEVER ARE ONE UNIT.
HOW DID YOU GET TO THE RING AT THE BOTTOM? ASSUMING YOU MEAN THE ONE DOWN THROUGH THE SELECTOR GATE.

Changed iot on my '93 model in about 1 min flat. Undo ring at bottom of knob, fit appropriate sleeve from set supplied with replacement knob and fit new knob and tighten lower ring. The lower black section of old knon remains but looks OK and new one is much better shape and colour match for wood in dash (got it off ebay)
