All, I hope you can help me with a solution please?

As per the title I have a 2003 SL500 R230, the heater/cooler fan speed control, when turning up, doesnt increase passed half way. Is this purley a control replacement of something more sinister?
Thanks in advance
Stewart

I'll bet the rear screen heater won't go on either - the problem is (or should be) the consumer battery in the boot - give it a run & it should be all right. Check the battery though - it could need replacement

Hello and welcome

Failing the above, mine does the same if it is set for auto and it can take a wee while before it decides to increase passed halfway ;)

Thank you David, i love the profile pic btw. Fingers crossed thats the case, as the consumer battery is original and pretty much flat, as the roof didnt budge either. New battery on order, lets see how we go.

Well, that'll be the issue then :)

Thanks all, it turned out to be the consumer battery at fault and replaced. Now though I have a new problem with the A/c. Pushing ac button to switch as ON with LED off, however the light stays off for a couple of seconds, flashes and the illuminates again.
Any ideas guys?
thanks

Yes, you have a problem!
Mine is exactly the same problem, had it on Star and showed up as Aircondioning switch. I replaced it and only had air con for about an hour. I had it back on Star again to be told the air con switch, so there must be another elsewhere. I wasn't told where though. I had the system regased again a little later on. This made no difference. However I still had aircon working in the centre console and glove compartment, until just recently, now no cool air any where :(

My aircon still works perfectly after many years of ownership, I've never had to do anything to it (touch wood). I think something is wrong with your system, probably needs a re-gas, due to a leak somewhere. If they re-gas it, ask them to use dye, this will show up where the leak is coming from.

My advice would be to take it to a good local MB independent, who will diagnose and fix appropriately.

Gents, it appears that my air con problem is a bit more in depth than just replacing the consumer battery. It also appears that it quite a common fault, but reading forums, no one has a solution. So my ask is, 1. Any ideas? Switch AC on, light should go off, but just flashes and come back on. & 2. Can anyone recommend a Mercedes specialist, not a local Dealership, support your local garage! I’m in the Epsom, Surrey area.
thanks
