Looking around, I notice you can buy an SL from around 1980-1985ish for about £5000, less in some cases, and more in others. It's a nice looking model, and the prices seem good. Looks like a possible classic. I'm not a mechanic, so would have someone else do any servicing etc and would buy it for occasional use rather than every day.
Question is, is it worth it? Or would I be buying a load of trouble? I know cars can vary wildly, and if you get a good one you're lucky etc, but is there a general consensus about this particular period as the prices do seem reasonable when compared to, say, early to mid 70s SLs. I would quite like a 70s SL, but these seem much more expensive.
Any thoughts?
