I have been looking at some Discs on ebay and wondered if anyone could
either recommend the product (or not) and what if any, are the advantages
over Merc originals. I am hoping that Pascal can advise with his Tecnical insight.

They look like a basic aftermarket disc to me. Have'nt come across the name before so I'm guessing that they are Brembo's economy brand, perhaps for the european market.

I use ebay for a lot of stuff myself but in this case I would rather spend an extra tenner or so and get a pair from euro or german & swedish along with the warranty and backup provided by these places should anything go wrong.

Bought my last set from the local dealer and from what I remember they were quite reasonably priced.

Janey Mack Sligo,

I don't know a lot about brake discs. David is the man for that.
Pete and I were just discussing the front ones for post 98 r129s
These are 330mm and can only be sourced from MB. The pre 98s
fronts can be purchased from Europarts etc. as they are 300mm
and are very cheap.
Regards the rears, they are 200and somthing mm, and are cheaper
still.

So I would go along with R129, and buy from Europarts etc, and get
the pads at the same time. The front mintex 300mm discs (pre 98)
including new pads cost £71 for both sides, so the back should be
cheaper still

Pascal

Now Sligo, Tell me where you got this hardtop setup you mentioned
last week. The one that fits on the wall.

Norrbit is one of Brembo's aftermarket brands as is their other brand - Breco. Only the Brembo brand has O.E status and fitment. Brembo is a huge company and manufacture in lots of locations around the world. Whilst the disks may be made with Brembo technology they are aftermarket disks which means that the actual composition of the material may be different from the OE.

Italy (Brembo's hq) is the Brake Disk capital of the world ! There are quite a few large manufacturers in the Northern Industrial part of Italy usually centred around Bergamo ( been there got the t shirt).

Out of interest, Brembo and Chrysler Daimler signed and agreement back in 2003 to form a joint venture to manufacture ceramic disks - which they are now producing in Italy.

More importantly, check that the disks will fit your vehicle before you buy!! There are 4 different systems on the SL R129 series and I have yet to see an aftermarket catalogue that actually lists the right disks !

My R129 500SL is supposed to have 300mm fronts and solid rear disks according to the aftermarket catalogues, My fronts are actually 320mm and handed and my rears are actually vented and not solid.

In my opinion if you dont want any hassle then get them from your friendly dealer - you may be pleasantly suprised by the price - give 114 a go because he is quoting some good prices from the Merc Dealer he works at.

Guys,

I am talking to a chap called mark (114 072 22) He has given me some very good prices for disks and pads for the genuine kit. He gave me some very good prices. I unfortunately bought a set of Mintex disks and Pads that were 300 mm (as I fell foul of the catalog problems) dealers wanted £51.38 plus vat Mark is quoting £35 plus vat :D

I am just in the process of getting them So I will keep you posted :D

Regards,

Peter
