Do any of you guys out there know of any way of fitting a Comand system to an R129 SL?

The first 6 numbers are indeed 129064. Where could I find one?

If my memory is correct, these things use fibre optics to link with the CD changer, the 129064 cars only had this fitted after 2000, if the car is earlier and has a CD changer, this will have to be replaced as well.

I had an APS30 fitted earlier this year. What I really want is a Comand unit.

APS30 isn't COMAND - it's just a simple Sat Nav system. It will fit any R129 from '96 onwards. The CD changer doesn't have to use the D2B ring (introduced in late '98 for the '99 model year). The unit does however need to be programmed to the model you're fitting it to in this case.

You can retrofit a later style COMAND but that requires the centre console to be modified which I wouldn't recommend you do.

The Becker APS30 units appear on eBay quite a lot - expect to pay around £225 for a good one. You want model BE4715 or BE4716 which is the last model they made for single DIN fitting. BE4718 was for the W208 C class and will not fit an R129.

APS30 software is now up to version 9.0.

Stats you cant use an anolouge 6 CD changer with a APS30 using a optical output.

The CD changer has two methods of control from an APS30 - optical and analogue via the block connector.

It depends what CD changer you have! Standard fitment post '99, no - but aftermarket (as most APS is) then you can use an analogue CD changer and is valid for cars without the D2B ring - i.e '96 -'99 MY.
