SL Hardtop

I'm just about to make a first venture into M-B ownership and am negotiating to buy a 1984 SL380 which is in excellent condition apart from the hardtop which has quite bad rust on the underside at the back. I'm guessing this is probably a common fault so can anyone advise if it is possible to repair or will I need a complete replacement.

I've seen them on ebay for hundreds of pounds. All the bits seem available, at a cost. Try these for info.
