I want to completely remove the dashboard of my SL as I have a small leak coming from behind the dash. Ive been told that its a leak caused by rust around the heater intake boxes.

Having looked at the leak It would appear that I will have to remove the dash inorder to repair this. Has anyone done this before as I know its a common fault on the old SLs?

Secondly, how big of a job is it removing the dash and then replacing it? is there anything that I should be wary of?

Thanks

There is a thread on here somewhere with details on the removal of the whole dash of a w124.

Ifzal, first check your drainage holes/tubes right in the corners of the lower windscreen channel. I was getting a wet carpet on f/p side until I discovered a totally blocked drain tube on the n/s, and since clearing it out, no problem. (May just be coincidence, but I don't think so). However, I would advise against just poking a piece of stiff wire through for fear of rupturing the tube part-way down. I just happened to have an old outer casing of a bowden cable (bicycle brakes) lying around and this was perfect, no sharp end and very flexible. Worth a try, only take a minute.

The first one to wanado should work ok. If you have poups disabled, hold ctrl down whilst clicking. All links from this site are popup windows

The second was just a search, sorry. Just put 'dashboard removal' or just 'dashboard' in the search box.
