The wing mirrors on my SL55 don't fold on getting out of the car and has no switch to do it manually. It seems very strange as this is a mega specced car with virtually everything. Is there something I can do to switch something on or to get programmed?

Have you looked at the convenience menu on the dash?
If you have the menu then you can select various options to make life easier such as lights coming on when you open the car, the steering wheel moving out of the way when you take out the key and the mirrors folding when you lock the car.

I had a phone call from a very well known "banned" member to say that

"the button right on the middle of the half round buttons around the gear shift is the on. Now if you have to hold the button down while they close, then they cant be programmed. If you give the button a push and release, and they fold, then they can be made to fold automatically".

Here is a post from Richard..........

If I remember right (and I have a Euro SL55), the mirrors are connected to the door controllers. The door is connected to the car via CANbus.

So, in theory, you change the switch on the centre console (to have the fold in/out button(s)) (which are on that semicircle of switches), change the mirrors to mirrors with motors, and tell the door controller and the lower-control-panel that it now has folding mirrors.

BTW, they fold in nicely and save them being knocked off in tight spaces. (or when your wife reverses it out of the garage - luckily she only broke the cover/repeater - the mirror glass is serious $$)
