How do you gain access to the leadlamp switch cluster to replace the switch illumination bulbs?

All the other dash switches are illuminated.
I've been locating it in the dark to switch to other functions is by touch/knowledge.
Are you sure all the symbols around the switch should not be illuminated?

Yes I had a 1999 129 for 2½ years, and have answered this many times,,

There is no bulb in it Steve,, they do not light up,,if you pull the knob for the fog lamps then you get a red lamp

Malcom I just checked my 129 300sl and the light switch does light up on mine when you turn the lights on plus there is a single bulb in the centre which lights up when you turn the fog lights on by pulling the switch as you rightly say. I once had a 1998 180 C Class where the switch didn't light up and yes there was no wiring nor bulbs for it to light up , and yet my neighbours 1995 C Class light switch did light up and the switch in the C Class and the 129 sl look the same .I was wondering would trim level spec have any factor on this.

The 129 shares all of these things with the 124 and 140, as one can see in the link there is no bulb. Nothing in the options price list either, whether or not there is provision for a bulb, and it was not fitted I do not know off hand. this question has come up before with the same answers

Thanks, I thought it lit up when I first got it but that was light nights!
Looks like I need to delve a little deeper.
Total strip down this weekend, hope to resolve problem the hard way!

Just saying that there is a difference between the knob illuminating when the lights are off, there have been many post on this question if you do a search
