I have bought an 1998 R129 SL280, it seems to run OK but I noticed an orange relay mounted above the battery. It has a fuse on top. The fuse is blown and the holder badly burnt. Is this the OVP relay? With the relay unplugged it still starts and runs OK. Where can I get a replacement at a reasonable price!

As a "newbie" to this forum I have found lots of useful info but can't seem to find any info about this part.

Good morning Mr Harvey and welcome to the forum where we have a lot of SL owners.
Your OVP relay is a device to safegaurd the expensive ECUs in your car from any over voltage, in this case as you have just purchased the car it could have been the dealer who has jumped started the car at some point.

Your car is now running with many functions running on a very low voltage that can cause iratic idle etc.

You could replace the fuse and test it out. check the voltage on pin 87 and the should be 12v with the new fuse, if the fuse blows then the protection zenor diodes have gone down and the relay should be replaced.

These cost about £58 from any dealer and they are normally in stock.
