SL300 Indicator/wiper stalk problem

Hi all, my indicator/wiper stalk has never worked in the fast spped wiper setting? Everything else works as it should but when you select from normal wiper speed to the fastest speed the wiper just stops and doesn't move until you turn back to normal speed. Anyone had this problem? Also recently (and has only happened once) when in either intermitent wipe or normal wipe speed the wiper just stopped, in normal speed it sat still in the middle of the windscreen and after 10, 20 seconds decided to move again. When it was in intermitent speed after it had done a few wipes deceided to not go. But once reset back to off all worked fine (except the high speed wipe). Any idears would be appreciated.

This is hard as it could be the N10 relay or the combo switch,,I will try and post back with more info

Thanks Malcolm, I was going to put it down to a dodgy switch at the end of the stalk hence when ever you select high wipe speed no connection no wipe. Did even think of a relay fault, look forward to your findings, thanks

Twist out the end cap to see for any obvious dirt contamination.
