Hello all. Roof (softtop) problem on 1992 SL300 r129.

Roof will only go halfway up if lowered then stops in upright position. Reverse sympton if attempting to lower. Gets halfway then stops. After running the car for ten miles or so problem seems to clear.

Just recently bought the car and have a sneaking suspicion the battery may need replaced. Could this be the cause?

All feedback from you Merc SL wizards is greatly appreciated.:D

Many thanks.

First thing to do is to re set the roll bar and the windows, if they are not set it cant get past them.

It does go up eventually. Not got my owners manual to hand to check how to reset roll bar/windows. Is it a straight forward procedure?

To be sure that it is not the roll bar, put it up with the switch, the roof when going up or down should put the roll bar down and up again when finnished.

Do not forget that on your car the switch spells out the fault code if you have a fault, if yours is hesitating is the oil level OK.

To re sync the windows , when the top is up close them and hold the switch for 10 sec and turn key to 2.

See how it goes.
