Hi Guys,
Found a strange this today, looked at my instrument cluster (SL320 2001 Model) and saw that there were two lights that were not working this morning.
Initial thoughts lead me to think that it may be the bulbs but having tested the bulbs and they are ok.... i am slightly confused now as to why 2 lights nest to each other would not work??????......
any one had this problem before where dash lights give up?????
any ideas to what it may be????

I had a mess about with the dash again today only to find if i mess about with the bulbs taht it sometimes lights up the oil easier than the coolant.... i have been told that it may be a break in the pcb... anyone know if the pcb can be bought seperate or is it a repair only job unless i feel flush to spend £800+ on a new cluster ( Not )

It's listed as one part. I'm sure Malcolm can suggest a good place that will repair it.

Special Delivery should be £7.40 - don't think it weighs more than 2kgs without the case.

stats,
should i strip the cluster out you mean? i would have thought that it would be better sent whole? but you may be right as the cost with Business post for 2kg is £35 each way on a 2 day service.....

It's very easy to do. If you haven't got the cluster removal tools you can drop the lower dash and push it from behind. The cluster case then just comes apart. I wouldn't risk posting the cluster glass myself.

Hi Stats,
I can take the whole cluster out thats not a problem, but how would i remove the glass from it? i see your point about the glass not really worth the risk...

If the glass ir removed, then a piece of plywood should be taped over the face to protect the gauge and speedo pointers.

The glass is part of the outer case - the PCB can be removed seperately.

i was looking at it last night stats... looks like a fair bit of work, and may even be more prone to damage if i seperate ( with my goofy hands ) i was quite careful but it require some force to remove it all, i think my best bet will be to send as one peice but wrap it up really well... i hope it stays under 2 kg from £7.40 it goes to £18 even if its a ounce over !!!!!!!
