Hi all new to the forum but hoping to get some help.

Have a 2000 320Sl and the hard top stopped halfway up when being closed yesterday, red light came on. Closed the top manually could not engage the rear of the top. Now the red light flashes and can hear a click from rear seat area, roll bar doesn't work either. I think the soft top has just got cunfused and I neew to reset it, any one know how to do this?
Cheers

Not exactly sure what you mean. You closed the front manually but did or didn't close the rear manually. If you cannot lock the rear with the special tool, then remove the roof again & see if both rear catches are at the same height, they should both be up.

As type 49, you could disconnect battery for 2 mins, this often re sets them.

The basic operation is that the roof needs to know where the windows are, also the roll bar.

If you do disconnect the battery, then lower the windows and hold the button for 10sec in key 2 then do it in the up mode, then lower again. Hold the roll bar switch in the down position for 10 secs in key 2

The reason will be that the rear locks, or one is in the closed position and this must be unlocked.

This fault is often caused when taking off the hard top, if the hard top was not lifted off correct the weight at the rear can cause the locks to close. This happened to me once when I had a 129, disconnecting the battery re set it.

On another car here it did not and I sent the guy the info on how to do it manually

Ok well tried disconnecting the battery and following procedure above but still not working. also rear locks are open. Interestingly says in the handbook that when closing the roof the rear will not engage - perhaps a design feature to get you to visit a dealer.

anyway any more ideas, help much appreciated or is it time to visit a dealer.

Cheers

You must be able to lock it on the hand key if the locks are open.

I do have the set up data to hand somewhere, see what I can find, this has been covered on the forum before.

try to unlock every thing including the front and opening the roof fully then trying to close it.
As you may find the front are not locked in properly....
