Update 3rd week without the SL350

They have now tried 3 x SBC units which all rectify the issues with all the lights coming up and the ABS absolutely useless, except one............they can't get the ESP light to go off.
Their "Top" mechanic has now applied for a brand new unit from Germany as he thinks its a voltage issue as one of the so called reverbished SBC units was'nt running at the correct voltage.
Getting a tad fed up now, but they keep giving me a new AMG each week to drive!!

I'd make that their last chance, if they can't get it sorted get a refund and take the car to Jonny SBC.

He's a car electrical genius, and not just with SBC systems. Sorted out an acquaintances W212 with a really weird O2 sensor problem that wasn't the sensor.

Matthew,
Have you got his dets please, as I do have someone local, but he is always swamped sorting out Mercs. Doesn't look great for the training of these lads. Last time it went to the head UK trainer at Milton Keynes to sort it, and he found a voltage drop on a similar problem..........the car is brilliant when its going, but when it plays up its not only too complicated but very expensive lol

Update:

New SBC unit arrived from Germany, the ESP light is still on.
I gave the guys the UK trainers name at MK and left them to talk to him for his views. I believe, and have always believed its a voltage problem, so I await the next phase of this ongoing saga

Ok.................I got a call today, admitting they had been using a previous chasis number of a same model car I had owned on file with a personalised number plate, to obtain the three trial refurbished SBC units and the probable cause of the ESP light not wanting to play.
Having got three units in and tried and failed, then getting a new unit in from Germany and failed, they then started to check the job card via the expert on line.
The mechanic clearly up till then relied on the service department to provide the correct info and from that "written" down info the parts manager ordered the parts...............wrong as they were.
Blimey you couldn't make it up.
All of this flagged up by the head Merc trainer at MK.............tad embarassing as Germany won't take the brand new unit back either!! Lessons learnt there, and very brave of them to own up, but I still don't have my car..............next installment soon!!

Gosh, that's crazy!!! Agree it's reassuring they've not tried to bullxxxt their way out of it. Sounds like you'll be good to go soon.

You couldn't make it up...............at least they said it was an admin error where someone picked up a simply old chasis number for an "SL" on my files and wrote it down. From there EVERYBODY followed it on ordering parts.
I bet the company who refurbish the SBC's must have been in melt down, thinking they were doing something wrong!!

The costs one can get into, sorry ,one can be forced into today are staggering thats very close to what I paid for lovelies car and we have had more ten ten yrs use of it to date.
I aint buyin another modern car, they are built to baffle with tech and chain you to the dealers,oh and they dont last either.
These days it takes a month to discover how it all work, some never do!

Glad it all got sorted and the car is running again. That’s the problem with merc dealers customer goes via inept service ppl who relay info to the techs.
One mistake there and it all goes Pete tongue.
When I take my w220 for service I always provide the oil (Mobil 1) to keep the cost down. I tell the service ppl it’s in the boot. Once I took the car and on collecting service lady says we used your and not charged for oil. In the car park i opened the boot. The oil was still there - untouched. The tech who done my car was in the car park. I said have you changed the oil. He said sure (I seen him do it from the windows in the dealer). I said the oils still here in the boot. he said the service dept didn’t tell him and I should enjoy the money saved in the pub. Haha haha. They did charge for topping up the the washer fluid which I done before taking the car in mind.

I have to say, NEVER again will I darken the steps of a MB dealership. I have an Indy who is brilliant but he is moving location so it was the best option at the time to get the car back up and running, but I never thought it would take them a month to realise they were looking at an old VIN number from an SL in days gone by..........Human Error!!

I've just sat and read this thread, out of curiosity should the same fate befall my car, and crikey what a saga you've been through all over them keeping an old VIN on file! Glad you eventually got it sorted and I don't blame you for never wanting to go back to them. :)

They were totally open about their error, but as my old car of 2007 (same model) had a personalised plate on it, they entered that number and did not check the VIN against what they had in front of them a 2014 SL350.
Easily done, but its cost them dearly. Germany won't take the new SBC unit back and the dealerships who provided the refurb units take them back into stores with a cancellation fee!!
You couldn't make it up could you?
