My 2011 SL350 currently has 19" AMG wheels. They look very nice but the ride is poor.

I would like to fit 17" Mercedes 5 Twin Spoke Wheels the part number of which is, I think B66474472 - A2304013902; the width is 8.5 & the offset is ET35, PCD 5 x 112.

My car has the 952 sports package, which some people have said precludes fitting 17" wheels, however others have said 17" wheels are OK.

Does anyone have direct experience of fitting these to an R230 with the 952 sports package please?

I know I can get a wheel on SOR & test fit, but....

Is it deffinately a wheel issue rather than tyres? What tyres do you have now?

The current tyres were on the car when I purchased it a couple of weeks ago, they are not my choice!
Front: Michelin Pilot Sport 3 - which has been superseded by the Pilot Sport 4
Rear: Bridgestone Potenza

My thoughts are to replace with 255/45/R17 98Y all round with Pirelli P Zero system or Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, probably the latter. Same size all round as I will carry a spare wheel.

I'm not concerned about "looks", but comfort is important, as I will use the SL for trips from the French Channel ports to the South of France, Spain & Italy.

I live on a BOAT (Byway open to all traffic) which has a very rough & uneven surface & the roads in my rural area, and in the Pyrenees (which I visit annually) are also pretty poorly maintained.

I had 18s on my 230, I think that’s the optimum set up personally

Thank-you flowrider & John Laidlaw

I'm focussing on 17" for the maximum perceived benefit, but 18" certainly is an option.

Can I get a full-size 18" wheel in the boot though?

The spare in the boot on a R230 is a space saver.

My SL is on 19" wheels and the ride is good, despite the rubbish Bridgestone tyres, but I have ABC.

If you use the space saver you need to be able to get the normal wheel in the boot... or it gets a bit expensive leaving them at the side of the road...

ABC works very well with large wheels, standard springs not as good by a long way.

Good point, let's hope if I ever need it that I have an empty boot! I could always store the wheel behind the seats if I had to.

I’ve had 2 of my summer wheels and tyres from the SLK on the passenger seat when I went to get them renewed. Wouldn’t fit in the boot

Just accept the space saver option, I shouldn’t prompt this but apart from a slow on the ovlov ive not had a roadside puncture in 15 years...
If I do get one I’ll be calling it in, I ‘pay’ for it effectively

I had the valve fail on the Landy, the spare failed exactly the same when I took it off the bonnet so recover to tyre place...

I had 3 punctures in a day on a round trip from the South coat to North of Birmingham in a Discovery many years ado.

It turned out that a lorry had shed part of its load, 100s of screws, on the motorway. A spare wheel was no help that day!

Many thanks.

The first ones are the ones to which I referred in my original post, which I think I'll be going for.
