sl380 accelerator pedal

New to sl driving (1981 sl380) and new to this site. Does anyone know anything about the the piece of equipment that sits in the drivers footwell behind the accelerator pedal. Mine one if hanging off and the hole is letting in water (should it be screwed in and what does it actually do, also is it electrical as it has a wire).

sounds like your kickdown switch

it shouldn't be loose and flapping about. Out with the screwdriver and contortionism and see if you can get it back in shape.
