My SL400 has 10k miles on the clock and will be 3 years old in September ie out of warranty. It will be serviced before then and I am wondering whether to extend the warranty. Any views on that? Should I ask the dealer to look at anything outside the service to give me some comfort?

I think it depends on warranty cost (for me anyway ) , I normally favour the put the money aside in your own account as a warranty . That’s how I roll . Welcome buddy let’s see some car pics .
If you want an Inspection prior to the 3 year expiry get an independent specialist to look at it

They are a complicated beast and can easily eat a few thousand on not a lot, how much is a warranty extension?

It is a photo of the car in its natural environment............. a filling station.

As for a warranty, as stated, depends on the price and the mileage you cover over the course of a year. Far more chance of something going wrong.
Before it was remapped, I did think about an extended warranty on mine until I saw the price. £2850 for one yearo_O

Silly money, so I just put aside a decent amount "just in case" and if nothing untoward needs doing its money saved.
I do however realise that I could be looking at a large bill if something serious were to happen.
A member on the other forum faced a £12k bill when his biturbo bent a conrod and destroyed the engine.

Thanks for the replies. I don't work for Shell - just liked the yellow and black - BP green wouldn't be the same! It was taken during the first lockdown and entitled 'On the road to nowhere'. Next question - 95 octane or V Power?

Whatever fuel it says in the filler cap , using a higher rating is a waste of money

On the fuel filler it says 98 then puts 95 in brackets. The manual says 98 recommemded but says you can use 95.

Have you had many issues in the last years to make you think the warranty is justified?

Is having the warranty a piece of mind?

In my opinion I would bank the money.

Peace of mind. No issues so far. I had and SLK and E220 no problems with either.

Need to be careful about what you will actually get under the warranty. I believe that there will be many exclusions for that price. e.g. Your wheels are the same as mine (4 years) and are corroding at the hubs. MB consider it normal wear and tear. I currently have an ongoing dispute with them via the ombudsman.

Fuel: Yes highest octane you can get. I use Shell V Power or the BP equivalent.

Agree - I looked into it and decided against a warranty. Reading many forums on the R231, I don’t recall reading about any any real issues and they have been turning heads since 2011 ;) :) .
