The SL that we are poicking up next week has phone pre-wire installed which is great - the saleman told me that the crade cannot be changed and that its for a Nokia 6210!

Questions . .

As well as a 6210 - can the 6310 be used?
If the above is NO can the cradle be changed for a 6310 phone?

Cheers

The cradle fitted to your car should be the B67875822 takes a 6210-6310-6210i possible issues with the 6310i

the cradle 67875846 takes the 6220-6230-6230i

You can buy a cradle £131 for a part number

I presume it was the pre UHI system as they say you can't change the cradle. I had a 2003 E class to test and my 6310i wouldn't work. It would charge but that was about it.
So, I'd say, probably not.
The basic rule was that a 6310i cradle would run a 6210 but not the other way around so I guess it depends on which setup it is.
To be honest, I'd just fit a Parrot kit and forget the pre-wire. It's too restrictive.

There is no cheap way to update to the 6310i as the phone module would have to be changed, cost approx £200 but can be picked up cheaper on E Bay. The 6310i module will work with the 6210 but not visa versa. There is no need to change the cradle.

There is no real difference in operation between the two phones so best bet would be to look on E Bay for a 6210, cost about £30 in good condition. Plenty about.

Cheers . . .

will probably stick to the 6210 - its only for taking/making calls with my Orange Dual SIM PLUS - bluetooth is C R A P when compared to a wired system IMHO!
