Sl500 Distributor Cap Problems

I Need Advice
I Am Running Sl500 For Summer Use Only --- Last Two Years I Have Brought The Car Out Of Storage To Be Faced With Poor Running And None Starting As Soon As The Engine Is Warmed Up. Local Automotive Tuning Garage Have Advised Me That The Distributor Caps Are Sweating Through None Use And Spoiling The Internal Electrical Strips, I Am Imminently Due To Have A Second Pair Of Distributor Caps Fitted Within The Last 12 Months @ Over £150.00.
Is This A Common / Reoccurring Fault.
Can Anyone Confirm This Is Correct And Is There A Way To Resolve This Issue

This is a common fault - the later cars moved to coil packs ('96 MY I think). They are also prone to cracking and you'll have voltage tracking problems. Not much you can do apart from removing them and storing indoors if you're leaving the car like that for so long.

The fuel will need draining, tyres and brake checking etc.

Hello Pete, I have heard of this many times. I would remove the sump breathing pipes and clean them out to allow max breathing to take place else where. If the rotor arms have been tracking can you see where.

I also think that synthetic oil does not take in as much moisture as mineral.

How bad are the rotor arms,they can be fixed dependent on the tracking.

I had same problem

Hi!

I have faced same problem two times. Both times she (SL500 -92) has been without use for two weeks or more. After that starting well, when hot --> stalls, starts again when cold again and this never happend again in next day.
I do not know the reason for sure.
