Sl500 roof not closing or opening

Hi all,I finally purchased a sl500 2003 model.petrol 5litre v8.

Today I opened roof with key remote.boot lid opened, arms came down in boot and that’s it.

When I go to open or close roof with button inside car.it says close boot lid. Then it says in operation. I have disconnected battery and boot nearly closed. But has. 2 inch gap. Dash board shows same message.

Hi,

Am guessing that you tried opening the roof on the battery.

Perhaps retry the opening, closing with the engine running as could be a flat ish battery.
Now that you have disconnected the battery I think you will need to reset the windows so that the roof module knows where they are and can operate.

Reset the windows before retrying the roof.

Thanks for reply, I tried with car started with no luck. Not sure how to reset windows?.also where should the micro sensor be?.

As for switches, there are many. The load cover one is often guilty, but could be any one of them, or two

Far better to find a good MB independent and have them read the fault codes for a quicker diagnosis. These are very nice cars but a little complicated.

Hi, turns out it was due to low battery.

I removed battery, put on charge over night. Reconnected to car. Asked family member to sit inside car and press roof close button while I pushed down on boot lid. It locked and partially closed. After that I pressed roof button to open and then close. All worked as it should.

Glad that you have it sorted out. A low battery can cause a lot of small problems on most Mercedes.
