As the costs of ABC repairs has reduced significantly the recommend course of action is repair the ABC

Whilst I've driven a good few R230's I've not owned one so not had to have one repaired so can't advise on a place...

I agree, repair is always better as they do not drive anywhere near as well on coils. Depending on the fault, repair is often less than the cost of a coilover kit + Installation.

First off it's not air suspension. It's oleo pneumatic and a development bid the Citroen system also used by (amongst others) Rolls Royce and Bentley.

Secondly just no. Don't do it.
Unless you're after a pure stripped out track car it ruins the car.
ABC is a very clever system that gives superb handling and cosseting ride. No aftermarket coilover can hope to get close.

Best place for you us probably Avantgarde nr Bristol. Steve is a member in here and very highly respected.

What state is it in currently? Is it the full red warning or a white one? If it's red do not use the car or start the engine.

Full red warning, Had a mate look at it and its leaking oil at the pump.
Its not going up or down at the moment, But its stuck up so is drivable. But i haven't drove it.

I'd give Steve a call and get his input. If the pump has broken up internally you risk filling the system with swarf and creating further damage if you run it.

Do you have breakdown recovery?

I'd strongly recommend anyone with an r230 to have full breakdown recovery and home assist.

Thanks for the advice, I Will have to consider the cost to be honest. Ive already spent £1000s on other things and im reluctant to keep spending.
May have to sell as is .
Unfortunately i dont have breakdown cover at the moment. Just got it through the mot and this happens.

My SL goes on the recovery truck quite often, not that it breaks down, oh no.....only when it rains

If you are going to get rid of the car. Is it likely you will spend more on a replacement car, than spend on repairing this ABC issue.

BC Racing sell Coilovers for the R230 for about £900 but you then need to source front and rear Sway bars, Sway bar links and a power steering pump.
