Hi, I’ve been thinking about getting an SL500. I’m 6’4” tall and wondering whether I’m too tall and will have sufficient leg/headroom. I would value any experience out there on whether I should be concerned.

They are amply proportioned - I’d recommend you take one for a test drive to see if you fit and are comfortable.

As above, go and test drive one..

Which SL are you looking at as there are a few models about….

R129 1991 to 2001.
R230. 2001 to 2012
R231. 2012 to today

Dates are approx and each model will have a few foibles, especially the R230. Plenty of info on here regarding each model.

Nice cars though..

Easiest thing is find one for sale with a local trader and ask to sit in it. Simples.

I am 5' 11" and I had loads of head room in mine, but that doesn't really help you. The seats do adjust for height, but best to have a sit in it first.

They are well proportioned, designed to fit the (ahem) "larger" customer, so not a sports car by any means.

Hi. I’ve got an SL400. I’m 6 ft 4” and have no problem with head or legroom. The only problem I have is having a single garage even though it’s double length, when opening the drivers door it’s a bit of a squeeze getting out, due to the door being big and long. It’s worth it though and the SL500 would make it even more worthwhile. I love my SL and better still, my wife loves it too, which makes it a winner!
Get ont and enjoy. I’m sure you won’t regret it.

I’m 6’1 and took a 2016 model out some weeks back.

I didn’t notice any issues with head room as the seat is low to the floor and getting in/out was a breeze, as well as once you’re on the move. I can’t see another couple of inches being an issue.

I have a fairly upright (correct) driving position. I’m 6’2” and no problems. The only issue is that the door is long and you need space to open it wide so that you can easily get in and out (typical coupé problem).

I have a SmartTop in mine which automatically positions the driver’s seat in 2 positions. 1) Getting into/out the car position (when ignition is turned off). 2) Driving position (when ignition is turned on)

I'm late to this comment but had my 2019 SL500 nearly a year now. I'm also 6' 4" and it's quite a long way to get in and out of, but it's so comfortable.
Not the same level of comfort as an S Class, but I appreciate the swab also extends to give better leg support for us taller people. Not hit my head once, and find the driving position adjustable enough, with plenty arm room around I've never found it restrictive.
I do suspect that the top of my head gets a bit more blasted than a shorter person when the roof is down.
I have my dream car and makes me smile each time I drive it!

Ditto - I got mine new in 2017 (after owning a SLK 350 for 4 years) and I never get tired of driving it.

Did you buy one ?
No not yet….. I’m waiting for Spring to start looking in earnest. Need to locate one closer to home base to physically check out. I’m up near Aberdeen.
