Hi,

I have been fortunate enough to get one of these great cars - it is awesome. However I intend to drive on the continent as we have family in Germany and hence would like to know whether anyone has had any experience of derestricting this (or any other) AMG. I have tried to find where this can be done, needless to say UK dealer says it cannot be done as the UK car "has a longer warranty" than the German ones. I have seen a number of ads for derestricted ones so it must be possible.

I would opt for AMG if I could find where.

Anyone with any ideas?

AMG website is at

http://www.mercedes-benz.com/amg/e/news/index.htm and the e-mail to contact them is under Dialogue, across the top of the screen.

I've corresponded with them, and they are pretty efficient, but may be shut down now until New Year. They will do pretty much anything you want, (if you take your wallet!) but may ask you to sign a disclaimer.

Let us know how you get on! Congratulations on your car...

Cheers, :)

Guy,

Thanks - I had a quick look and as you say, they are closed until the 7th Jan - will try getting hold of them then.

hi
AMG will delimit engine ecu for you but it will have to be removed from the vehicle and sent so them, turn around is 7 to 10 days during this time your vehicle will be of the road unless you want to buy another ECU

As requested, the answer from AMG is that this can be done. In my case I want to combine this with a factory visit to AMG, so it will be done in situ. They need 3 weeks notice and it takes 3 hours during which time you can visit the factory and talk to the person who built your engine!

Oh yes, and it costs Eur 2000. I checked with my insurance and they are not charging any extra for this mod.

I assume this can be done to all restricted AMGs (and other MBs).

They seem very helpful.

It can - but in my case, since I've never been to Germany, and (sadly) have no plans to go, I decided to live with the 155mph 'restriction' in the UK!

Good luck, and take care - and let us know how you get on at the factory - take some pics if possible!
