first of all hello i'm a newbie on here
and been pulling my teeth out over which one to go for.

will not be buying new will be buying approx 4-5 yr old depending on milage etc....

and first i wanted the sl55,
but after reading loads of reviews and watching loads of videos and tests i really not sure now,
i like the idea of having a 6.0 v12 over 600bhp under one foot lol

which would you guys go for if you had the choice?

thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum :D and so you like the idea of doing the 0-60mph in 4.2 sec rather than the leisurely 4.5 secs,, my 500 takes a little longer,,I love the car though

both are unreal, the 55 engine is less prone for faults and cheaper to repair, unless your a real 0-60 guy you wont find much in them!!!

you will find the difference in performance only really shows well into go to prison speeds. The 55 and 600 have about as much oomph as you can deploy. The v8 also sounds miles better. 65 is rare and amazing value. At the age you' re after though I'd hate to think of the running costs of a 65 going wrong.

thanks for the speedy replies

i know the 0.3 seconds difference is sod all but it's the idea of having a 6.0 v12 instead of a v8 it's just a mines bigger than yours thing i guess

if i cant find a 65 for a decent price then i may opt for the v8 55

any good comparison sites you can recommend?

yes i suppose in terms of running costs and reliability the 55 comes out on top, will probably be sensible at the time but i will get a 65 a couple yrs after the 55 maybe,

insurance aint tht bad on a 55, even with a 21-day ban and 6 points on my licence
(3 points now i just remembered)

umm........... yep :(

points didnt really bother me, but since the ban i've been sticking to the limits lol, was such a pain in the ass to get back and forth from work as i work over 50 miles away from home on average,

and before you mention fuel consumption with the 55 or 65 lol, i have a company car for work

I have an SL55 and love it..........I have been told by my local MB dealer that people who need the larger V12 version are normally male with a penis envy problem.......I have no idea if this is true or not ;)

Go for the 65. V12's are amazing. A fella had one on the other place and reckoned the 65 was much stronger in terms of performance. He did comment it was a bit more nose heavy and the 55 was the more agile car and more than enough performance (actually a 350 or 500 has that too) but its ability above 100+ was just mesmorising.
