Driving home and car had no power delivery what so ever, just chugged along as if it was saying "just get me home". Revs gone. Unless you put it in neutral then it screams like normal. So I'm guessing engine is okay (phew) but something, somewhere is interrupting sending all those lovely stallions rearward to the back axle.
Anyone out there had a similar issue and could point me in the right direction.
Much appreciated,

gav

You wont get far without having the codes read.

I think that with a 600 you need the services of a good, independent specialist. Where are you geographically? Someone will advise.

I say with anymerc if you are unable to DIY.
Reading some threads on her of late alot of mechanics playing parts darts, no scanning, so on and so forth.

As suggested. Read codes. Unfortunately today's motors don't lend themselfs to self diagnosis
Read and note the codes. Then delete them see what comes up again, go from there. I use icarsoft mb 2 I think 3 is the latest. U are in limp mode so it's near certain u have a relevant code
If ur keeping the car the diagnostics is near a must, unless u like givin benz 150 plus to do only that?
I had the sl600. Loved it. But it was never going to be a long term self fixer far to complex rodents got at my abc. Took me a month to properly sort it out. Regrettably sold it on a Yr later, bought another modern, post 2012 model that's also given a good nu of electrical, electronic problems .

I had a similar issue once with the SL500 and SLK320. Both cars were low on transmission fluid.
Nice one, thank you, I'll start there and then clear the codes. Give it a run and re scan. Cheers

I know it's been a while had a lot to deal with. This afternoon I manage to clean up the underneath and top up with 4 litres of transmission fluid. I say about half a litre is on my garage floor. The first attachment show a sheet of cardboard with obvious signs of a leak or 4!. This points to the trans sump.
What is more worry and I think is the real problem, is a fresh trace of fluid merrily flowing from somewhere much further up. See attachment 2.
Any thoughts.

The electrical connector plug is a known leaker after time . It’s an easy cheap replacement, maybe £15-20 part

Time to get cleaning again and the btake cleaner out. Once clean run the car and get under it to see the source.

4L is ALOT of oil. Hope there is np damage to the box.

The connectors as @Wighty - should be a service item.

It was completely empty of oil and the dipstick I have does not appear to registering oil. Haven't found anywhere that says exactly how much fluid is required. Have started the vehicle.
Leak is coming from above the electrical plug.

Total gearbox atf is going to about 8L for the whole system , half is in the Torque converter and some in the oil cooler .
The gearbox dipstick only measures from the top down to show the oil level , the dipstick doesn’t hit the bottom of the gearbox sump .
