So over the last few weeks iv noticed a very slight noise that I suspect is coming from the front wheels. the noise doesn't get louder when I speed up it just seems to get more frequent in repetitions. and when I get to around 60mph I can't hear it at all. doesn't seem to change when I turn either way.

I suspected wheel bearing so I have just jacked the car up and tried moving the wheels side to side and top to bottom and there is very very slight movement but when I spin the wheel the only sound I can hear is the pad on the disc. no grinding or rumbling noise. this slight movement is exactly the same on both sides. is it normal to have a slight movement on each side?

when I heard it yesterday on a straight road press the clutch to see if it was any engine movement and nothing changed? sound was still the same, iv checked both tyres for nails or the like. both front tyres are about 6 month old with around 1500 miles on them. any ideas? thanks

What kind of noise?
It’s difficult to explain. It’s not a rumbling noise or a high pitched noise. More like a rubbing noise or brushing noise. It speeds up when I go fast and slows when I go slower. I can only hear it from about 25mg to 55mph after that I can’t hear it.

Brake pads rubbing the disc , are they getting hotter on one side of the car ? If you slightly press the brakes is the noise still there ?
What mileage are you on ?
Have the front bearings been adjusted or had any grease added ?

Just a random thought , is the E coupe a C class platform ? Because there is a C class thing where a clip can break on the rear foot brake cable which drops it onto the propshaft where it makes rubbing noises

Aaargh ! Does not compute Will Robinson ! :)
Yes clutch I’m afraid. I was told there’s only 6 manuals in the country how true that is I’m unsure. Just done a 20 mile journey to Carlisle to take mother for radiotherapy (last one out of 10 sessions) noise hasn’t got worse or better. I’m off to york tomorrow couple hundred mile trip so will see how it is then. It was my sons 13th Monday gone and we’ve got him a triple supercar experience plus high speed ride.

Just had the wheels tracked because on my trip to york I noticed the car pulling slightly to the left and guess what made absolutely no difference to the noise oh but the car doesn’t slightly pull any more. I’m starting to think it’s these mid range tyres I got in October mot time. Going to put the car up and have a wheel wiggle to see if it’s any different to Wednesday after 400 miles of driving.

So the cars up and wheel is off. When I spin the disc it spins freely then at a certain point it needs a push through. Is this a warped disc? These discs have been on for ages and apparently have 28000 mile left on them :D

Push the pads gently away from the disc with a screwdriver so you can check the bearings

Done, there is slightly play in both front wheels if I had to put a measurement on it I’d say a couple mm. No noise when wheels spins on either end. I’ll get her booked in at some point for a bearing re grease and adjustment.

Might be sticking caliper parts or piston ?

quick update, iv took the wheel off and the disc is able to rock side to side as if the retaining screw is loose but it isn’t and it won’t nip up. So question time - is it normal for the disc to be loose enough that you can move it when the retaining screw is tight? Or should the disc have no play what so ever?
Would that even matter once the bolts are all tight? I’m starting to think it’s a disc issue as the sound have got worse since taking them apart and the sound is a repetitive sound not a constant crunching or rumbling sound?
