slipping diff

anyone got any ideas what could be causing this problem.if i pull away to fast i get a bad shudder from the back end(it feels like the wheels are spinning but they are not) but if i go slowly there is no shudder.once i am moving there is no problem.dose anyone think this could be the diff slipping or any other ideas.thanks for any help.my car is a 1995 e class 250 diesel automatic

Hi,

It might not be your diff, it could be the transmission slipping.

Mine does something very similar, no judder, but definitely slips when I pull away too fast from a stop.

Sounds to me like a knackered uj joint on the propshaft at the diff end........check all uj's.

thanks for the ideas everyone.i don't think it's the transmission.the noise is coming from the back end.but i will check the joints.

If the noise is definitely from the back, then I think panasonic is on the right track. It may be that one of the driveshaft UJ's is breaking up inside.
