Hi.

I am trying to get behind the door card to refix the window runners (or whatever it is that has come loose in there) and am having real problems.

I have found the 3 main screws (2 behind the door handle and the other behind the SRS badge in the door), but I cannot for the life of me work out how you lift the door card clear when the whole thing doesn't seem to want to seperate from the chrome door opening handle.

I have removed the lock mechanism plate and the chrome panel at the top of the door, but still it is stuck fast where the door pull is. :-x

It seems to be screwed in from behind, but I cannot get in there to loosen these screws. :???:

Has anyone removed an SLK door card before? If possible some step by step instructions wouldn't go a-miss. :)

I want to get this done myself, so I don't have to pay dealer rates to do what must be a very simple thing if you know where all the clips are.

When I pryed the bottom edge of the door off, a 10mm nut fell out and I would hazard a guess that is what needs retightening to stop the window rattling in the door.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Dan.

Hi
Have removed the panel on my 98 SLK several times to repair the window stops.
First remove the cover on the door pull which you have already done.remove the 2 screws (done) and the third behind the air bag badge (done).remove the plate on the door outer top edge and the plate at the door catch.
Use a flat blade up between the door card and the door and pop the press studs.gently pull the card down to release it from under the window moulding at the top left hand corner, once that is clear just bump the card upwards and it should become free this will allow you to remove the door handle cable and speaker wires.
The reason the door feels fixed at the handle is because there is a wedge shaped peice just behind it thats why you have to bump it up to free it.
Hope this helps.

Hi mercman1.

Thanks for your reply.
However I still haven't managed to get the trim away from around the chrome door pull handle, it feels like it is going to snap.

UK passenger door: I have taken the chrome plate from the door end, and also the plastic cap from the door catch off.

Then I levered off the door handle and removed the 2 screws from inside there. Then I popped open the SRS badge and removed the screw from there.

I then popped open all the clips along the bottom edge of the card and up both sides.

I then removed the black triangle piece from inside the mirror housing.

The aluminium trim around the door pull just does not want to come off, it is physically attached to the grab handle and bends in the middle when I try to lever it off.

When you say release it from the top left hand window moulding, are you referring to the top left of the drivers door or the passenger door?

Please can you elaborate a little.

Regards,
Dan.

Hi sorry I was refering to the drivers door. the inside door handle and all the trim come off with the door card there is no need to remove them !
The wedge I was refering to sits just behind the top edge of the door pull and just hooks over the metal skin of the door interior.you just kinda lift and pull the card to remove.

Hi.

Cool.
If that is the case then I was almost there! I will have another go once I get a chance.

Thanks again.
Dan.

Fantastic advice! Kind of levered the card up and out with a nudge in the middle section and off it came. Easy as pie when you know how.

Getting that lug behind the door open handle to go back in was fun though. ;)

Cheers,
Dan.
