Hi Guys,

I have an SLK 230 Kompressor under used car warranty from MB.

The exhaust has always sounded like it has been blowing and after a week of owning it I returned it to the dealer and they assured me nothing was wrong with this.

It still sounds like it is blowing and I am wondering if I find the exhaust is faulty if they will replace under used car warranty or not?

Any ideas on how raspy the exhaust should sound on an original SLK230?? Should it sound a little blowy or am I being paranoid?

Cheers

Really the only way to find out would be to get under the car and feel for an exhaust leak. Get a helper to change the engine speed while you search. I had a similar situation and found a crack just in front of the muffler which I was able to have mig welded for a minimal cost. Sometimes it's difficult to identify a small leak.

The 230k all sound like that, mines the same, it gets better once warmed up but always sounds crap when cold.

Mine is also exactly as described by jibcl500.

Initially I thought it might be a cracked manifold ... sounds like it is blowing on start-up but go quiet as soon as it begins to warm up.

I now assume this to be normal.

Thanks!

When cold it sounds awful but as soon as it warms up it's not so bad!

Guess it must be an SLK thing!

The SLK's can suffer from cracked manifolds and leaking manifold gaskets.

This will cause a chuffing sound when cold that does diminish when warmed up.

But then again every SLK I've driven has a lovely throaty rasp between 2 - 5k rev range.

Enjoy it, most people have to endure an Alfa to get that throaty rasping exhaust note.
