I am considering purchasing a SLK230 about 1997-99. Can somebody inform me what type of Cam drive is fitted. Chain/belt/gear? If belt the recommended replacement time.

Hi Nigel, all MBs use a timing chain so you have nothing to worry about. good for excess of 175k miles

One of the worst changes that was made to the majority of engines, the fitting of rubber belts!
Any other things that I should look out for when viewing?

I think that it is just a matter of driving it, if you ever get any noises from the suspension on bumpy roads or any thing else it is better to post back.
