Driving along 10 mins after refuelling and car stops. Long story short, fuel contaminated with water. Petrol station said their tanks were checked and not at fault. Assuming I can believe them, how did water get into my tank? Is this a problem that anyone else has had? :? :?

Hi Finman

No direct experience of this myself but..............

It is possible for water in fuel to arise from your own system paticularly if your car has been standing for a while. Think about the weather conditions at the moment particularly humididty which could 'condense' on the internal surfaces of your tank as it 'breathes'.

However all things being equal - bet it was the filling station although difficult to prove now.

Hi Finman,

If you use the same petrol station to fill up. Then I would think that they have leaky tanks.

There is no other way I would think that water in sufficient amounts would get in.

I would assume that your vehicle is a year or so old. Thereby giving enough time for the water to collect with successive fuel refils to get enough water over time to cause a problem.

Water in petrol tanks from petrol stations is not a new phenomonom.(If thats how you spell it).

We had load of problems with KE & kA injection systems.
