SLK aerial

My earlier SLK's had the aerial built in, but the present model has a bit of twisted wire extending near the boot. This looks very unsightly, and it also gets in the way when loading the boot or when going to a carwash.

I asked my local dealer if they could fit me a stub aerial like the ones on CLK's but they did not seem to be interested.

Has anybody replaced the twisted wire with a stub aerial ? Grateful for any information is so.

You can find sites on the net that will do you the AMG ariel from the SL model. from what i have read it loses reception from the radio easier although this wouldnt bother me. but what also happens is the ariel is used for the remote for your doors and you will need to be closer to the car.

if you have the phone pre-wire dont change this ariel as it is also used for the phone and you will find a drastic reduction in reception.

do a search on Google and limit it to UK.

your dealer could source the ariel for you. maybes email other dealers and see if one will help.

Not sure how it gets in your way when loading the boot?

and car wash? hmmmmmmm i dont do car washes. I worry about it being nicked mainly.

try www.r171.co.uk an email to them may help you locate what you are looking for.

In the 4 months since I posted a query about the cheap aerial on the current SLK I have had 73 visits but only one constructive reply. Are all new SLK owners really happy with the twisted piece of wire ? Surely there must be something better than that which we can fit as an alternative ?

I had not realised that UK sales of the new SLK had been so low. Is the cheap aerial putting off buyers ? I still have not found the answer.

keverstone, look at the benzworld site -- some people there playing with slk171's and have changed the aerial using brabus parts available via MB dealership - well so they say & they quote part numbers required.

Downside - radio recep affected - not sure i fancy doing to myself -- wish MB would realise its a an "odd" design - and the sl range bee sting type aerial is what we all want.

rgds, and hopefully a little helpful,

John
