I have a 2001 SLK, air con has been fine since i bought about 2 months ago, until last weekend. The car was very hot inside on sun and turned on the ignition and all three lights came on the heating panel, on the EC mode (which is normally on) and the two on the recirculation button, I cold nto get air blowing or the air con on. there was some air coming through (not via the blowers though) which was red hot. Great for such a hot day. Next morning everything worked again and has for a couple of days, until yesterday afternoon on the drive home from work. All three lights on when i turned the ignition on - no blowers and no aircon again! it does sound as though the fan is whirring (even went switched off). maybe just a faulty fan.

Anyone else had this problem, i am ringing the local merc dealer today, but being as this is the first time it could be going in jsut want to make sure they do not rip me off?

Also if it is a faulty fan - is this covered in the merc warranty?

I live near J22 M1 so can get to Leicester, derby or notts easily, does anyone recommend a good garage Merc or otherwise that can handle this at a reasonable price.

Same problem

I am having a similar problem with my c200 Coupe 2001,
Hot day, turn aircon on, nothing cold. all I get is hot air and a wiring from the fans behind the dash. Very frustrating. Only had it topped up 2 months ago. Need to get MB to look at it I think. Trouble is, I will end up paying a fortune for it to be fixed and then the weather will turn cold!

Ann you need to check the black fuse box to the front of the battery, its square and is pushed on to a strip on the inner wing, as your stood at the wing, theres 4 strip fuses, air con fuse is number 3 going towards o/s of car, ( 50amp ) if these fuses are over tightened they spilt slighty sometimes loosing connection that would be first port of call....
