SLK Alarm/Immobiliser

Hi folks
Can anyone help me with this query. I purchased a 1999 SLK 230 in January this year. The alarm and immobiliser activated in what I thought was the normal manner. The indicators flashed and the doors locked. I have this week had both the doors and the roof painted. Since receiving the car back I have notice an audible sound from under the bonnet which sounds once on opening the car and twice when locking the car. The sound would seem to be a sound that you might expect to hear but it is the first time I have heard it. I wondered if the bodyshop had the battery disconected and when re-connecting this has reset sometihng in the alarm. Does anyone elses alarm make an audible noise from undr the bonnet?

Ours doesnt make a sound either. I understand that alarms wernt factory fitted initially, although many were dealer fitted at PDI. I dont know when this changed but it could me that either you have different, non standard alarm than us, or perhaps your car is new enough to have a factory alarm - which is again different to us.

my new one(r171) doesnt make a noise and nor did the old one(r170 2002)...
