Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and I wonder if anyone can help me. I've just bought a 97 P reg SLK. Despite the car being in overall good nic, the alloy wheels are a right mess. Currently all 4 wheel have corrosion marks on them, it looks like something has reacted with alloy leaving white marks all over the wheel, and as a result the clear finish is cracking off.
:(

I'm just wondering if anyone else know if this has happened to any other SLK, if so, what caused it? Also does anyone know if this sort of damage can be repaired?

Thanks

This is typical wheel corrosion. MB alloys suffer more than most because they are polished and laquered, not painted.
Send them for refurbishing or do it yourself.
Paintsripper, metal polish, degreasing solvent, laquer / paint and elbow grease are all that is required.

I bought an slk in jan 04, mint wheels, and now, just 3 months later they're pretty bad. :(
merc have offered 50% on new wheels but they must be like for like. is it worth swapping them if they'll be just as bad again in 3 months?? Or can you guys/gals suggest some other alloys that I should spend my money on which are painted and so won't corrode?

any help appreciated, last thing I want on my slk are dodgy wheels.

I bought some new Mercedes alloys for my SLK because I want to use the originals for winter tyres. I got the 17" 5 spoke wheels (which are the same pattern as the original SLK320 16" wheels) that are used on CLKs and C Sports. They cost £550 for all four which isn't bad and they're painted and lacquered like the originals. The original wheels on my SLK are over 3 years old now and there isn't a mark on them.

Bargain!

I just had all four of the original SLK 230 alloys stripped, powdercoated, and re lacquered for £40 each. They look fantastic!

Go for a refurb!
