Hi, this time it's the Wife's SLK 230 (2001 Y), when she attempted to open the bonnet recently the cable was siezed / rigid resulting in the nipple snapping out of the plastic handle and the bonnet remaining shut tight! Does anyone know if there is a release option available perhaps via the underneath (which at first glance is well protected / covered with plastic trays etc) Also squeaky wipers... is this a Merc problem as my S320 used to have terrible probs with the same? Thanks, Andy

cant help with the bonnet, but squeaky wipers is normally due to wax on the screen, normally from a car wash. I dont think their is a fix other than home washing and new wiper blades. Even home car wash products often have silicones included because it makes the body work look good.

Hope this helps.

Mark.

Can only suggest you clamp mole grips on the nipple and pull hard whilst at the same time downward pressure is briefly applied on the bonnet!!.......if the cable is seized/stiff then you have nothing to lose if it becomes further damaged as it will probably need to be renewed anyway.

Ouch!

OK for the wife but what about the SLK...? Ho Ho! Thanks for the info regarding the wipers... it's just that I don't suffer the same probs with my BMW 730d 04 nor previous cars, only my Mercs! Anyway the Mole grip idea is good, I've tried the pressure down and pliers but it's very stiff.. thanks anyway.
