Have a bit of a prob it would be good to get some advice on please......

My drivers side brake light just refuses point blank to work.....fuses checked (are good), bulb put into passenger side brake light and works fine, contacts cleaned up but still no light.....only thing that makes it work is a good ol' thump on the lens!!

It began as an intermittent problem but now the warning lamp on my dash is a permanent friend!!! It started when the weather started getting warm....though that may just be a coincidence.....!

However, over the past 2/3 months, I've now seen 4 SLK's with the same light out.....2 "R" reg, 1 "V" and an "S" (mine's on a "P")....is this a common problem with SLK's or is this also a coincidence

Any pointers would be appreciated......from experience electrical probs are a pig to locate and therefore can be pricey on labour. My partner builds VW based racing buggies in his spare time so he's more than capable of having a go at fixing it if he knows where to look...!

Cheers my dears

If it works when you thump it,then it can only be a poor connection on the PCB (bulb holder) or connector joining it up. I have never seen anything listed as a known fault.

Get a small screw driver and prise out the connecting plate on the bulb holding holder that connects to the bulb.

make sure the car is switched off..

Thanks for the advice.

When I've prised it off....what do I do with it? Replace it or is it worth trying to clean it up? Is it a part I can only get from a stealership?

I think by "prising off", the meaning is bending it out slightly to get a better contact with the back of the bulb
