Just thought ide update this..
Just fitted the lower front ball joints this afternoon.
Took about 1 hr in total. Dead easy job.:grin::grin: Got the joints from Mercedes..
The car now feel like its on rails again... It felt "ok" before, but the inside edge of the front tyres were starting to wear. I did "poke" around with a pry bar, but i couldnt see any play. There obviously was some wear....
The car has had these fitted back when it had 25k miles on,[under warranty, previous owner],, So i guess they dont last too long.. Its now got aprox 63k on it...
Just got to get the rear subframe bushes ,[leading edge],done now...

At my recent MOT test the ball joints were highlighted as an item needing attention soon. My 230SLK has 22,000 miles on the clock (2001 model), so as you say, they're obviously an item that does wear out.
The garage quoted me about £100 to do it, including parts.

Including parts that not a bad price

Thats actually a good price, as the joints are about £50 / pair...
